I'm preparing for another work sprint trip down to Cape Town in a bit over a week and another year has me rethinking my travel setup once again. I'm more and more fascinated by the 'one carry on backpack' travel setup, but it seems to go against my photography aspirations. Most of these bags aren't setup to be photography friendly. Not to mention, it's great when you can live out of a bag, but once I add work gear, photography gear, and my required sleep machine it adds up fast.
In the end I do want to try this and so I've purchased what looks like the best bag option at the moment, the Tortuga Travel Backpack. I'd looked at them before but after hearing the EPOP folks talking about them and some Youtube time I'm sold. I'll be working on some review posts and possibly videos coming up on how this travel setup goes together. I really want to get this setup as I've got a double trip to Gent and Rome coming in February and I want to have this Cape Town trip be a solid test run.
This means scaling back the photography gear I bring along, doing more with less, and handling my clothing situation better with more reusable layering approaches. Look forward to all the dirt as I start up a product review blog section here to go along with my tech rants and this travel section.
